Goal of the event:
The aim was to let people with normal vision to understand how people cope with daily routines without perfect vision or no vision at all. So as a daily event we selected eating and by blindfolding the participants we did our project.
Short description of the event:
The event started on 25th of Maarch, at 17:30 on Saturday afternoon at a small cafe called Getik. We organized the tables and ordered a simple menu consisting of chicken, salad and fries. A total 15 people participated in the project due to exams 4 of them being local board members, 4 ESNers and 7 erasmus students. While I, the project coordinator, the OC and one ESNer were recording the process or making it a little bit more difficult, rest tried to eat.
At the beginning we asked the participants to sit down according to the table set up and covered their eyes. Once we were sure that they could no longer see, we placed the servings and souces on the table followed by the main course as well as drinks. Board members that have accepted the challange waited for the first participants to eat and observed their behaviour while we filmed the whole process. We specifcally wanted them to wait.
As soon as the first party finished, we had board members eyes' tied too. Same process was done for them as well. When they began to eat we made it more difficult for them because it was our president's third time accepting the challange. We mixed drinks, added bread to their plates and even removed the plate in front of them just to see their pure reaction.
In the end we had a 27-minute video and lots of funny moments but most importantly they had a chance to experience having limited or no vision.
How did your event go?:
As I mentioned at the description we enjoyed the project very much without any deviations from our main goal.
