Goal of the event:
Learn some spanish sign language while having fun in the dinner and raise awareness about the difficulties that the deaf community has to face when comunicating with other people in their daily life.
Short description of the event:
During the snack meal the Erasmus was given a material from the Federacion De Sordos de Madrid (provided in the course that I am currently doing with LSE) with information about the deaf community, the alphabet and various dynamics that we made during the Dinner. The ERASMUS have learned to finger their names and some of the signs most used in everyday life. We made a mimic game in which the Erasmus made gestures a few drawings for their partner to reproduce them in a notebook. At the end of the activity each participant has been baptized with a gesture as all deaf people do to recognize them by their gesture as if it were their name.
How did your event go?:
The ERASMUS were delighted with the activity and wanted to do a second meeting to learn more about the LSE, some have asked us for information about associations of deaf people in Madrid or if we knew where they could take an LSE course.
