Goal of the event:
We wanted to dive into the world of visually impaired people by experiencing a specially created dark rooms, to raise our awareness about their daily routines. We wanted to sacrifice our visual ability in order to experience a totally different world.
Short description of the event:
We went to a specially constructed place called Dialogue In The Dark, which contains absolute dark rooms and places of daily enviroment such as the City(Istanbul), the park, the boat&tram and a cafe. We couldn't see anything and had our walking sticks to help us. We were guided by our visually impaired guide whom provided us securtiy & orientation to this new world.
Sometimes we struggled a lot and feared, cause we only had our walking sticks, walls (sometimes) and our guide. We always had the feel the slope of the floor with our sticks to avoid falling. Also, about 5-6 times, we had the step down and step up through steps of 10 cm's. The fear of falling was always present. But we realized that our hearing ability improved throughout the event since we always tried to give attention the voices to measure the distance.
How did your event go?:
It went really good, we all shared our opinions with each other during the event and after the event. Some participants claimed that at same point they really craved the light but they held on to their patience cause they knew that it was only for a limited time. We also thought how hard was it to travel abroad for blind people, we tried to produce ideas to bring solutions.
Everyone was very impressed and thoughtful by the end of the event.
