Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
  • Make ESN Accessible
Goal of the event:
The main goal was to raise awareness about vision impaired and blind people among our Erasmus students. We wanted to make them understand first-hand what kind of obstacles blind people could encounter in the everyday activities.
Short description of the event:
The event started in our local restaurant where students took their seats and started chatting. Our ESNers explained them the main goal of this activity and what they should be paying attention to. Just before the food was served, they were instructed to put blindfolds on. While they were eating blindfolded, our ESNers were interviewing them on how do they feel in that moment. During the whole activity, students needed to take care of each other and there was a big emphasis on trust as well. After the dinner, we tried to come to a conclusion that raised awareness about people with disabilities.
How did your event go?:
Franzisca: "While eating with eyes bind I was even more excited about the food, because I didn't know what to expect. I hoped it was not soup, and I was lucky to taste meat and chips! The first bites were a challenge because you had to coordinate the cutlery to your mouth well and it was always a surprise if you had something on your fork. Thats why it was better sometimes to eat with the hand, because you could feel the food. But anyways it was a fun experience, even if I prefer to be able to see what I eat, because then you can enjoy it twice- by looking at it and by eating it."
Esther: "For me going blind needed a big trust toward other. I can't eat gluten and usually I controll this with my eyes, but now I only could believe that everything is gonna be alright. I never thought what big amount of trust is needed to handle life without seeing the world around."
Kinga: "Firstly it was hard to used to, even to find a fork or bowl with salads, food tasted differently and more intensive, tastier."
