Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
The aim of this event was to make international students aware of what a blind person daylife is like and what problems can they find when relating to people and make activities, which could be simple for us, like writing or reading.
Short description of the event:
The activity was carried out in a classroom of the university, where ONCE guests brought their own material. They first introduced and presented their organization (ONCE) and Braille. Then, they showed us how to write and read a text in Braille with a Perkins Brailler. After giving the participants some papers with Braille sings written, the participants were able to write each one a sentence with the Penkins Brailler.
We later prepared a game. We put on them a sleep mask, gave them a special marker and they had to discover which color was the marker without seeing, just smelling it (we did it with special markers with odors).
Later, some participants were put a sleep mask on and had to take a short walk around the building (also the stairs) just using a blind cane.
Finally, we played goalball. We explained what the game was like and the students had to practice some shots with a sleep mask on and a special ball.
How did your event go?:
Very well. Students liked the activity very much.
