Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
We wanted to raise awareness about types of stuttering and also we wanted to make an information exchange with our Erasmus students such as the number of the stuttering societies in their own countries and what people's attittude is towards the stutter people.
Short description of the event:
Firstly, we watched the movie "King's Speech" which was about the King George VI, who was a stutter. We also Invited two stutter people to give information to us about their daily daily struggles and lighten us about what stuttering really is and what we should/shouldn't do while listening to the stutter people. Before the movie, they introduced themselves and one by one, they talked about what they lived through in their schools and how they are coping with. After watching the movie, we asked the whether the movie reflected the true aspect of being a stutter. Then, we and our Erasmus students asked some questiones to them. Our guests also had the opportunity to promote their found-to-be association, "Stutter Freely!". They asked for our support, too. In the end we took a group photo altogether.
How did your event go?:
It was a very fruitful event. Before this we al thought that being stutter is repeating the same syllable over and over again. However we found out that this was incorrect. Having a jaw cramp, for instance, is another type of stutterism. Furthermore, we learn that we shouldn't try to finish the sentence before stutter people. This discourages them. We should wait patiently until they finish it.
Our participants enjoyed our event and they thanked us and our guests for enlighten them.
Our guests made their speech before watching the movie and since they could find a stage to talk about their problems, they were very enthusiastic and their speech took one hour. Maybe next time, we can consider doing it after the movie
