Goal of the event:
As we all know, there are lots of disabled people in the world and we need to increase better understandings for their lives. The goal of this event was raising awareness, empathy, equality feeling and creating better lifelong help for the disabled people.
Short description of the event:
There are several impressive short films about how disabled people continue their lives, what kinds of difficulties they have to face, and the behaviour types that others should do. We thought that if we watch together these short films, this would be a warm and emotional environment. The idea was watching these films to raise awareness and then talking together about what can we do for better future for the disabled people. Then we created 'Short movies with Out Coffees' activity with Erasmus students. Also, we chose a perfect destination for it: a cafe that hearing-impaired people worl. We tried to order our coffees with sign language as well with the help of the staff.
How did your event go?:
Previously, we had organized an event in Demgoodcafe where you can order your coffee by using sign language and where you can practise it. We wanted to spend more time in that lovely atmosphere while watching short films about mude individuals. First, we came together in the coffer and tried to order our coffees. Later, when all the people arrived we had a short warming conversation and then started to watch movies
The attendance and the interest of the people were really nice. In the end of the movies, we continued to talk about daily things that we should do to help disabled people, and bigger actions that the governments should do. It was a nice activity to have brainstorm to create the future. We were happy that small or big we had impressions about increasing social awareness about disabilities in the minds of people!
