Description
Aim of the event:
  • Promote mobility
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
The goal of the event was to spread awareness about the Deaf community and learn young citizens Sign Language to be able to communicate with the Deaf community (I placed this goal under promoting mobility as if more people know Sign Language more people from the Deaf community can be reached and included)
Short description of the event:
We asked a trained American Sign Language student from the Malmö University to come and give a workshop in ASL. Next to the American Sign Language workshop she would also give a talk about the Deaf community since she was involved in it. Then she would learn the students some basic phrases and how to spell their name, how to introduce them selves and communicate in general 'hello' 'how are you' 'thank you' etc. And after that the students would be paired up in pairs of 2 and practise on each other. Since this was our first time organising the event we kept it short and simple.
How did your event go?:
There were not many people that showed up to the event, but in general the people that were there liked it. And the student who prepared the workshop would gladly come back again if we can find a bigger audience.
