Goal of the event:
The goal of the event was to give our students to have an opportunity to learn Estonian sign language and raise the awareness of deaf people. They were teached by 3 beautiful people from Estonian Deaf Organization who also described what are the main challanges they are facing.
Short description of the event:
The event took place on friday 24th at 19:00 at a student cafe. In the beginning of the event our teachers did give us a card with all the letters in estonian sign langauge. Then everybody learn the basic signs, how to say hello, how are you etc. Everybody including students did introduce themselves in sign language. They said their name and also where do they come from. After that we did have a question round, when everybody did have a chance to ask whatever they want to learn. Then they teached us different words and sentences.
They also told us how is their life with their disability, what are their main issues and what other people are thinking when they are trying to communicate with them. They said some people are saying that "you don't look deaf" and there are no specific way hw they are looking like. They are people like everyone else and can still communicate with others who don't know the sign language through lip reading and bodu language.
How did your event go?:
It did go well. The teachers were really good. The place was generally good, good lights and enough space. It was very noisy tho as there was another event at the next room. Next time should be dont some other day instead of Friday.
