Goal of the event:
Raise awareness about individuals with visual impairments. Try an EA event at ESN Jönköping for the first time ever. Work with other groups to build relationships and promotion.
Short description of the event:
Thanksgiving and disability theme in collaboration with Langauage cafe
Thanksgiving in the dark + other blindfolded activities + quiz about disability
First Activity:
Because it was also Thanksgiving, we had them make their own turkey sandwiches. Each person had to take out the butter and spread it on a piece of bread. Then they had to find the turkey and the cucumber and put that on as well. The hardest challenge was pouring a drink into a cup without spilling.
Activity 2
Pin the accessory on the celebrity. Participants had to place a hat, glasses, and various other accessories onto a celebrity picture while blindfolded. Our celebrity pictures were a famous Swedish football player, Adele and Leonardo Dicaprio
Activity 3
Language cafe always does a quiz at the end of their session. The quiz theme will be about disability and Thanksgiving traditions
How did your event go?:
The biggest issue we had was seating. Language cafe doesn't reserve tables during their meetings, they just take whatever is avaliable. Usually it's not a problem for them, but that particular day, the student union cafe was busy.
Other than that it went well. ESN board members were helpful and the collaboration between the two groups went smoothly. I wish we could have done a presentation at the beginning of the event, but since it was part of Language Cafes regular meeting hours, I didn't want to intervine too much with their flow.
I heard one participant say that it was their favorite language cafe so far!
