Goal of the event:
Students experienced some of the challenges you may face if you have a hand disability by building/decorating a gingerbread house while having their fingers tied together. The goal was also to make sure all the students also got to experience a traditional 1st advent celebration in Sweden (this time with an exchangeAbility twist).
Short description of the event:
1 advent cozy afternoon with gingerbread house decorating competition. Since ExchangeAbility week was starting the day after, we added an ExchangeAbility twist to the competition. During the competition, students experienced how it can be to have a hand disability. We tied their fingers tightly together with fabric so they had very limited use of their fingers. We had 8 gingerbread houses, one for each team and 4 people per team. The students showed up in groups of four. On each table we place a gingerbread kit, bags of frosting, candy for decoration and cotton. We also set up a table with loads of christmas fika.
How did your event go?:
I was fun but also difficult to decorate without being able to fully use your fingers. The students enjoyed the event.
