Description
Aim of the event:
  • Raise Awareness
Goal of the event:
Raise awareness about disability among the international students who are carrying out their studies in Cartagena (Spain) by having real contact with disabled people. Knowing how therapy with horses work. Play games adapted to disabled people.
Short description of the event:
We visited a foundation which carries out equine therapy with disabled people. That day apart from having some hours therapies, it had a visit of 20 children. So, we could do many things. Firstly, we learnt how to take care of the horses (how to brush them, feed them, basic security norms, etc). Later, we learnt the characteristics that a therapy horse should have (how they educate them, how they respond to different stimuli, etc). After that, we saw a demonstration of a lesson of equine therapy with a girl who was wheelchaired.
Next, we watched how the rest of children and us played games with the ponies and horses.
After a break, we played games of ExchangeAbility with them. We did races with covered eyes. Finally, we have danced typical indian dances with children.
How did your event go?:
We spent there the whole morning, so it was a bit long. Moreover, it was quite windy sometimes, as a consequence we were not comfortable all the time. By contrast, it was an activity very interesting and different. The Erasmus students were loved with it, since they had never had that opportunity before. On the other hand, children enjoyed the games and even so the Indian dances.
