Goal of the event:
Raise awareness about disability between students of 15 years old. Making ExchangeAbility project more visible among the different associations which work with disabled people in Cartagena, Spain. Putting in the disabled people's shoes by doing common things like touching objects and smelling things.
Short description of the event:
A private school organized an open day with same diversity seasson. In that day, the school gave us the opportunity to have a stand with the information of our project. Besides, they provide us a specific grade, in our case it was 2nd grade of Secondary Education, to make activities with them. First of all, we explained them what ESN is and what ExchangeAbility project consists of. Then, with this group we did some activities of awareness about disability. They were:
Teenagers should identify different smells with covered eyes, in other words, just using the smell sense.
Secondly, they had to identify some objects with covered eyes as well, just touching.
After, the realization of these two activities, we made a reflection of what they had felt. Even so, we tried to encourage them to go abroad.
How did your event go?:
Teenagers were impressed with our project. They had no idea about ESN neither ExchangeAbility project. Nevertheless, they liked to meet international Erasmus students and they saw interesting putting themselves into disabled people´s shoes.
