Short description of the event:
Here is the video of our last event from the Exchange Ability Week. Our purpose was to create awareness about people with autism and we believed that the most effective way of creating awareness is to educate next generations. So, it could last forever.
In this purpose, as ESN Trabzon, we made a presentation about autism to the students learning English in Kids Zone. We gave them some information about autism and answered their questions.
Afterwards, we played a game with the kids to understand one of the difficulties people with autism have to face: The Difficulty of Eye Contact. We made a circle. When the teacher said down, everybody looked down and when she said up, everybody had to look at someone. If you see each other, you scream and sit down. In the end, only 2 people were left standing up. The point of this game was that eye contact might be even fun for us but for some people, it might be a difficulty.
And then, everybody had to choose a partner and one of them had to close their eyes and their partner had to tell them the directions on the way of the canteen. This game has helped them feel empathy with visually impaired people.
Thus, the kids learnt some facts about disabled people and had a memorable day.
How did your event go?:
